Patterns is the name of Cluster ensemble´s new project – a performance combining music, dance, and light art. Its core element is the rarely played works by the American composer Steve Reich.
Four Organs, Phase Patterns, and Music for Pieces of Wood were composed in Reich´s experimental period, during which he was interested in new possibilities of acoustic and electronic instruments.
The movement-light part of the project is a minimalist interpretation of Reich´s musical structures. It emerges from the interaction of dancers, light, and music. The common denominators are rhytm, accents, and pulsation.
